The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The Duke of Edinburgh award is an internationally recognized award that has a long and proud history around the world. Since 1956, the program has grown and now reaches young people in over 120 countries.The unique flexibility of The Award enables participants of all abilities the opportunity to experience challenge and adventure, to acquire new skills and make new friends.

 

 

Levels of Award

The Award is a four section programme with three levels:

Bronze (for those ages 14 and over)
Silver (for those aged 15 and over)
Gold (for those aged 16 and over).

The sections involve:
Service: helping people in the community
Skills: covering almost any hobby, skill or interest
Physical Recreation: sport, dance and fitness
Expeditions: training for, planning and completing a journey
Residential Project (Gold Award only): a purposeful enterprise with people not previously known to the participant

 

The Award Benefits

Students who complete the award can become:

  • self-motivated
  • plan their activities well ahead
  • well organised
  • persevere until their award is complete
  • willing to involve themselves in a wide variety of activities
