At Shellharbour Anglican College we are dedicated to fostering a transformative educational experience through Service Learning.
Our mission? To empower students to live with hope and purpose, cultivating qualities of courage, compassion and curiosity.
Our focus on Service Learning helps shape young people to grow in faith and lead lives of service. Grounded in humility and integrity, our students can approach obstacles with hearts devoted to compassion, justice and mercy. They are resilient in the face of challenge.
To achieve this mission, we have created a dynamic learning environment teamed by passionate, Christian educators who can adapt to the diverse needs of our students. Over decades, we have built a strong sense of community, valuing teamwork and collaboration as well as celebrating individual successes. Ours is a learning community focussed on growth, innovation and faith.
Service learning opportunities allow students to relate lessons of the classroom to the realities of the outside world. Students learn to understand their place in the world and are encouraged to toward reflection and action.
Service in Action
What does Service Learning look like at Shellharbour Anglican College? We have a range of initiatives that provide authentic and experiential service learning opportunities:
- Strengthening connections beyond our school – other educational institutions, community stakeholders and First Nations peoples.
- Fundraising and charity initiatives.
- Duke of Edinburgh Award program.
- Lunch-time and after-school clubs and activities that promote service and community.
- Service immersion trip.
Gilgandra Service Trip
Students in Years 10 to 12 can participate in the College’s service immersion tour. During the April school holidays, students travel to Gilgandra, located near Dubbo in the Orana region of NSW. They work with a local church to run a Kids Club program and provide service to the local community, including local First Australians groups. Students discover much about themselves, the community they represent and the community they serve.
